My Wife gave this to me over 21 years ago, and it kept winking at me every time I ventured into the loft So, I thought I'd have a bash.
Made a start on the cockpit. I've modded the gunsight and made the switchbox. The rear frame also had to be made.
The seat with masking tape harness. I also added wiring for the voltage regulator and cut out the frame behind the armour plate.
I altered the engine to make a representation of a Merlin XII with the Coffman starter, as this kit, if made from the box, is a Mk1 (no blister)!
I have to make a glycol tank, modify the exhausts and do a bit more painting.

I not totally sure, but I would say it is a Revell original, 60s possibly?
I think Revell issued another I/II which is based on a Hasegawa kit. |

An update on this one.
Seat added with post for Sutton harness straining wire.
Oxygen hose is lead wire wrapped around a fuse wire core. It gives a ribbed effect which is not really visible here. Come to think of it, not much will be visible when the fuselage halves are joined anyway.
New firewall made with several electronic components (I always knew they'd come in handy) and some artistic licence.
Engine with glycol tank made from a piece of lead and solder tacked on to represent pipe work.
The wheels looked a little thin so I beefed them up with some plastic card.

It is starting to take shape now. I assembled the wings before the fuselage so I could work on boxing the wheel wells in whilst other bits were drying. Unbeknown to me, it threw up a problem when joining the wings to the fuselage.
The leading edge near the wing root was significantly lower than the wing. Had I assembled it normally, it probably would have been ok. So to get the best joint and preserve the wing root detail, I had to pack and fill the leading edge. Any small gaps will be dealt with using white glue.
Wheel well boxing in awaiting clean up.

I'm going to try the pre-shading method
I don't know how this is going to turn out. Still, we live and learn with this hobby, don't we? |

This is the state of play at the moment.
It is painted with a mix of Humbrol Authentics (upper) and Revell (sky) enamels
I think I went a bit wide with fuselage band.
The markings are currently in a bag, hanging in my garage window, as they have yellowed over the years. The sunlight appears to be working. |
